JCHS Conducts 2-Day Occupational First Aid Training for BEDB Staff

The JPMC College of Health Sciences (JCHS) recently had the honour of providing a 2-day Occupational First Aid (OFA) Training to the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB), reinforcing our commitment to advancing workplace safety and community health literacy.

Held at the JCHS campus, the programme was specifically tailored for employees of BEDB, with a strong focus on practical skills and theoretical knowledge in emergency response. The comprehensive training covered core areas including occupational health and safety, basic emergency management, first aid techniques, pre-hospital patient transfer procedures, basic life support (BLS), and choking management.

Participants were guided by highly qualified JCHS instructors who are certified by the Health and Safety Institute (HSI) and recognised by the Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA). These certifications ensure that the training adheres to both international standards and national regulations, giving participants the confidence to act effectively during workplace emergencies.

Throughout the programme, participants engaged in hands-on learning activities and scenario-based simulations. From managing wounds and fractures to performing CPR and handling chemical exposure incidents, the sessions aimed to equip trainees with life-saving skills they can use both in the workplace and beyond.

This initiative directly supports the Ministry of Health’s long-term goal of ensuring that at least one trained first aider is present in every household by 2035. JCHS is proud to contribute toward this vision by preparing competent individuals who are capable of responding swiftly and efficiently in critical situations.

By the end of the programme, a total of 39 new first aiders were successfully trained and certified—marking a significant step forward in strengthening health and safety awareness across various sectors of Brunei’s workforce.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to BEDB for choosing JCHS as their training partner. Collaborations like these exemplify how institutions and government bodies can work together to foster a culture of preparedness, resilience, and responsibility in the community.

JCHS remains dedicated to developing tomorrow’s healthcare leaders and promoting public health education through certified training, academic excellence, and hands-on skill-building.
