UTB and JCHS Formalise Strategic Partnership to Advance Educational Technology in Health Sciences

On 14th May 2025, Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) and JPMC College of Health Sciences (JCHS) have formalised a strategic partnership to drive innovation in educational technology, particularly within the fmeield of health sciences. The collaboration was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at UTB’s Main Conference Room, signifying a joint commitment to future-ready education and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Mohd Saiful bin Haji Omar, Acting Vice-Chancellor of UTB, and Ms Chung Yea Fui, Chief Executive Officer of JCHS. The signing was witnessed by Yang Mulia Mr Lim Chui Hua, Registrar and Secretary of UTB, and Dr Rachelle Sarmiento, Dean of JCHS. The ceremony was attended by key representatives from both institutions, including principal officers, academic staff, and invited guests.

In his remarks, Yang Mulia Pg Dr Azhan bin Pg Hj Ahmad, Head of Research for the Digital and Creative Research Thrust at UTB, highlighted the significance of the partnership and reflected on the successful collaboration that led to the development of a Virtual Reality (VR) learning tool. This initiative was nationally recognised with the BICTA 2024 Award in the Tertiary Category, exemplifying the transformative potential of educational technology.

“At UTB’s School of Computing and Informatics, we bring expertise in extended reality, gaming, AI, and product design. Combined with JCHS’s strong foundation in health sciences education, we aim to redefine the learning experience,” he said. “This partnership is ultimately about our students—equipping them with the skills and technologies they need to succeed in the modern workforce.”

The MoU paves the way for a range of joint initiatives, including the development of immersive learning technologies, collaborative research projects, and internship programmes. These efforts are designed to enhance student development and promote academic excellence across both institutions.

Both UTB and JCHS reaffirmed their commitment to this strategic alliance and expressed confidence in its potential to drive meaningful impact in the education and healthcare sectors.
