On 24 July 2026, JPMC College of Health Sciences (JCHS) bid a heartfelt farewell to the students and officials from Binawan University, Jakarta, Indonesia, as the college concluded its first-ever inbound Student Exchange Programme. The two-week programme marked a significant milestone in JCHS’ journey towards greater international collaboration and cross-cultural learning.
Throughout their stay in Brunei Darussalam, the seven exchange students and four university officials participated in a diverse programme of academic, clinical, and cultural activities designed to broaden their knowledge and provide meaningful international learning experiences. The participants attended interactive academic sessions, including Basic Life Support (BLS) training and Body Interact simulation learning, while also engaging in discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions with JCHS students and faculty. These activities enabled them to exchange ideas, compare healthcare education practices, and strengthen professional networks.
The delegation also experienced Brunei’s healthcare system through educational visits to Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC), Gleneagles JPMC, the Mental Health Unit (MHU), and Rimba Garden Central, providing valuable insights into patient care, specialised healthcare services, and community-based health initiatives. In addition, they took part in a range of cultural activities, including witnessing the celebrations for His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah’s 80th Birthday, learning about Brunei’s traditional kikik (kite) heritage through the Wellness Recreation Programme, and participating in cultural performances during the programme’s culminating ceremony. These experiences allowed participants to develop a deeper appreciation of Bruneian culture while fostering friendships that extended beyond the classroom.
The exchange programme reflected the shared commitment of JCHS and Binawan University to advancing international education, promoting cultural understanding, and preparing globally competent healthcare professionals. By combining academic learning with cultural immersion and practical exposure, the initiative provided participants with invaluable experiences that will support their personal and professional development.
