JCHS Students Gain Critical Emergency Skills Through Spinal Management Training

On 2nd April 2026, JCHS students had the valuable opportunity to learn directly from the Air Force team about spinal management, a vital skill set for handling injured casualties with suspected spinal injuries, particularly in challenging environments such as aquatic areas, forests, and confined spaces during emergencies.

The hands-on course introduced students to two essential techniques. They first learned how to use a simple spinal board, including accurately measuring and properly fitting a cervical collar to ensure safe spinal immobilisation. Following this, students were trained in the use of the Kendrick Extrication Device (KED), where they practiced the correct procedures and body mechanics required to securely stabilise and transport patients from the scene to the ambulance.

Through this immersive training experience, JCHS students developed greater confidence and practical knowledge, equipping them with the skills needed to respond effectively in high-pressure situations where timely and precise action is critical.
